Frank VanderSloot has lived the American Dream. From his humble roots—he grew up on $300 a month in rural Idaho—he became a global CEO and proponent of the free enterprise system through hard work and effort. Earlier this year VanderSloot was singled out on President Obama’s “enemies list” due to his support of conservative candidates and principles.

VanderSloot spoke at The Heritage Foundation earlier this week, and sat down with Heritage’s Rob Bluey to share his story. Watch Rob Bluey’s interview with Frank VanderSloot:

Frightening what this administration is doing. We need more people to speak out. Mr. Vandersloot is a courageous man.

Daryl Hunter - May 30, 2012

I sure would like to see Frank and others who are exposed as they have been make a pact with one another to always double down and double their contribution whenever attacked.

If Obama knew that every time he disparaged big donors and set them up for retribution the donors doubled or tripled their their contribution the disparagement and retaliation would end.

John D. Mercer - May 30, 2012

I would like to communicate with Mr. Vandersloot to tell him that he is not alone and that many of us share his ideals and principals.

John Bennett - May 30, 2012

Mr. Vandersloot,
Gland you spoke up!!!! Someone has to.

Hilda Sophie Clark - May 30, 2012

Another example of why this guy must go and should never have been President.

Gay Geiger - May 30, 2012

I find it appalling that our president put a businessman on an enemies list! So next will he include me; a retired
teacher, a non-union person, a military wife, a conservative and a grandmother?

Marilyn Wootton - May 30, 2012

There is something wrong with a president that would claim an upstanding American as an enemy just because he is not in agreement with you. Free Enterprise is what made America great. I am hopeful that Mr. VanderSloot’s company has recovered from the president’s vendetta. Mr. Obama, you should be ashamed!

Harry M Stover - May 30, 2012

I think it is despicable for any President of the United States or any elected Official to have an “Enemies List”.To me, this is the first sign of tyranny. When our elected officers establish this kind of list and are willing to denigrate ordinary citizens who have the right of ‘free speech’, and the right to support any candidate they wish.
Nixon was wrong to do it and so was Clinton.

charles o. - May 30, 2012

I feel like Frank VanderSloot that free enterprise is what
made America great. We need free enterprise to create
jobs for people so they can work to support themselves,
be part of the sysetem, paying in taxes to support things
that the Fed. Government needs to take care of: The
Military, IRA, etc.

I respect Mr. Vandersloot’s opinion, however, I would like to correct one thing that he said. The truth is that other Presidents have had their “black list.” I personally know union Presidents who were placed on President Nixon’s “black list.” There is one thing that you can be assured of: if it happens once, it will surely happen again.

Michael D’Andrea - May 30, 2012

Frank VanderSloot’s has lived the American Dream. We should celebrate his success from humble roots not place him on an enemies list. Mr. VanderSloot is a solid American citizen. I’m appaled a U S president would have an enemies list including Mr. VanderSlot based on the fact this gentleman donated money to Mitt Romney.

Bill Matthews - May 30, 2012

I want very much to be on Obama’s enemy list. I’m CEO of my own company Excellent Eagle Presentations. We teach young people about the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence and the faith of the founders. Clearly, I must be included as an enemy of this administration. How do I get added?

Charles Kastner - May 30, 2012

What Obama is doing is the most frightening thing that could be done. Frank, I admire you so much for your standing up to it all.

Karen Christensen - May 30, 2012

What a sad and scary commentary when the President of our country is allowed to call good hard-working people in our country an enemy of his. Frank Vandersloot has made lots of people very rich with his company “Melaleuca”. Melaleuca products are second to none. Mr. Vandersloot I am behind you one hundred percent. May God continue to bless you.

MJ Gatti - May 30, 2012

Vandersloot is a good man. Obama acts treasonously.

Patricia - May 30, 2012

I am very disappointed to see that I am the first to comment on this very informative interview. I was very glad to put a face and voice to Mr. VanderSloot, for he stands for what America is all about. He came from humble beginnings and is a self made man. He has every right to support the candidate of his choice. For Obama to make an enemies list is unconscionable but to put this man on it because he made financial contributions to conservative candidates is gestapo tactic of intimidation.

Kurt - May 31, 2012

Mr VanderSloot is a true American Patriot. My 29 years in the Navy, soon to come to a close, are in full support for such people, as I live to uphold and defend the Constitution against all enemies.

J. Hopkins - May 31, 2012

This is but the tip of the iceberg. When he is gone, and the threat of job loss goes with him, a portrait will emerge, not unlike Dorian Gray, that will show exactly how ugly this guy really is.

Richard Nutt - May 31, 2012

If Mr. Vandersloot had enough resources, he should consider lawsuit for slander or a “hate crime”. Obama should be brought up for those issues and for his failure to support his oath of office which is to support the Constitution. Read the histories of other tyrants; this president is on a roll to be one of them.

Michael D’Andrea - May 31, 2012

The fact that the President has an enemies list of big donors who support Mitt Romney is both shameful and quite frankly disgusting. This president also has a hit list with his drones as his weapon of choice. This President appears to be unable to laugh at himself. Calling him big ears appears to send him into an emotional outburst. I for one do not trust an adult who is incapable of laughing at one self once in a while. Time for the business community to realize this president needs to be voted out of office. President Bill Clinton referred to Obama as a Chicago thug back in 2008. Was he right?

John B. - May 31, 2012

And there are the legions of followers that support ANYTHING Obama does; and then they summarily condemn EVERYTHING the Bushes and Ronald Reagan did, without being selective to any degree or thoughtful in any way.

That’s what really scares me: the brainwashing, cult-like behavior of most of Obama’s followers. The attacks are just a tactic.

I believe that there are many, many Americans that feel our freedoms slip away. I was an immigrant as a single young adult in 1971 and have been a proud American for many years. Part of the problem in the USA is that so many have not seen/ experience up close what socialism/ communism/ loss of freedom can and will do to a country. It seems so nice/ humane to take care of the poor and needy. What we have lost sight of is that we have created laziness and dependency and a feeling of entitlement. Where are the days that we could go to local private churches and organizations for help, food, etc? We need to return to the LAND OF THE FREE AND WE WILL BE ABLE TO CARE FOR THE REALLY NEEDY

Kate - May 31, 2012

This type of behavior, from the leader of the “free world”(or anybody for that matter) is totally unacceptable. America better wake up and smell the coffee.

E. King - May 31, 2012

“Our President”, which is certainly the president by name only, he does not stand for any of our values or desires to come by hard work, common sense and honesty, he has done it by lying, cheating and help from most of the people that are against freedoms and want to change our values, it’s scary!!!!!

John Casabianca - May 31, 2012

American heroes are appreciated by the silent majority. With true heroes like Governor Scott Walker and Frank VanderSloot I am encouraged about the future of our nation.

Roxane - May 31, 2012

Pres. Obama should be ashamed of himself. How can our Pres. make an enemies list of his own people and publish it. These people are good, hard-working people. We need more people like Frank VanderSloot to speak out. Anyone should be able to support any candidate they want and contribute financially. Pres. Obama feels threatened by them because he isn’t doing a good job. This Pres. is evil and we need a change. America is becoming less “FREE ENTERPRISE and more COMMUNISM.”

Jake - May 31, 2012

What next? Is Obama going to establish a Gulag much like Russia had under Stalin to house his so-called dissidents? It is pretty sad when the President of the United States is so paranoid that he has to establish an enemies list of his opponent’s supporters. It is just another reason why we have to send him packing in November.

Donna Schmidt - June 1, 2012

God Bless you Frank. Keep on fighting against injustice.I’ll put you in my prayers,God help you against this serious evil. Remember God is in control. These people only think they’re in control. Praise God.

Patti - June 1, 2012

I can not help but wonder where does the President think the tax dollars he needs for his policies will come from after he destroys people and business like Mr.VanderSloot’s? Is he saying that the government will own and run these businesses and then tax themselves? Isn’t this Marxism?

Lori - June 1, 2012

Agree with Daryl Hunter! As soon as I heard this, I pledged to increase my usual Melaleuca order. Thank you Mr. Vandersloot, for speaking up!!

Jean Johansen - June 1, 2012

It seems that liberals are prone to using this tactic to damage and intimidate those who do not agree with them. e calls. If this were to happen in China, Russia or the middle east we would not be surprised. Frightening that a President of the United States would resort to this. It belittles him and the Office.

Dave Zornes - June 2, 2012

My GOD what will it take to make this nation see that this joke of a president is acting like a dictator, with the media as his personal propaganda outlet.Trying to destroy people in public with one side of his mouth, while taking money from them from his hand behind his back. What a piece of garbage he is.GOD deliver us in November from this empty suit.Who hates America and should be running china. He would fit right in.

Paul Smith - June 3, 2012

It is truly despicable for a good man like Mr.Vandersloot to be attacked and ridiculed for exercising his right as an American citizen, to support the candidate of his choice with his own money! Obama and his minions have to resort to this kind of intimidation some call “the Chicago Way.” After all, they cannot defend Obama’s record in office. So this is what we get. I truly believe they are capable of worse than this before the election is over in November. I admire you Mr. Vandersloot for standing up and speaking out. God bless you sir.

Jones - June 7, 2012

What country do I live in????????? I”m not sure any more….it’s beginning to sound more and more like China, Russia, Iran etc. any dictator country other than proud U.S.A. 77 years of feeling free and secure and now I’m scare of what is becomming of this great country. It’s time to vote this dictator and the whole bunch out before they destroy what is left

W. Colborne Mullen - June 10, 2012

I would like, to challange all who are not conservative, to understand the facts. Every job created, by the Government, is a 100% cost, for the tax payer. Yes! You pay everything a Government employee earns, and that includes their TAXES. You pay 100%! The absolute insanity we face is the increasing numbers, of those, who believe Government spending is a stimulent, for the economy. Government spending is a costly EXPENSE! I will offer the following suggestion, in the hope someone will read, and follow up. All Government employees should receive the same take home pay check, however there should be NO TAXES required. They are, in effect THE GOVERNMENT. This would be a stimulent, to the economy, which would not COST the tax paying citizen. The increased take home pay, for the tax payers would be evenly placed, in the hands, of every worker, and would obviously be spent all over the country. The Government would be forced, to limit the number, of Government, to jobs such as police, firemen, teachers, legal council, etc. We do not need Government sanitation, landscaper, construction, secretarial workers, etc. Those jobs can easily be filled, on an as needed basis, from the private sector, by employment, agencys. The outside agency would provide the benifits needed. They would have great bargaining power with insurance companies thus reducing the cost, for health care. I know my ideas will need much discussion. Has anyone the guts, to act?

Shirley H - June 17, 2012

I have a question, Is this list available for public viewing? And who, if anyone has seen President Obama signing any businessmen names to this so called list? And who created this list? You know what this is really getting old people. President Obama is not responsible for the horendous mess this country is currently in. Our country was run by a President for 8 years who brought us to disgrace in the eyes of the rest of world. For numerous reasons our country has been made a mockery of. And to the Frank Vandersloots of the world, here is some GODLY wisdom. The BIBLE says to whom much is given, much is expected! Pay your taxes and do it without complaining, and do what is pleasing in GOD’S sight and maybe GOD will allow you to remain rich! The LORD giveth and the LORD taketh away. BLESSED BE THE NAME OF THE LORD! Romney has no problem letting you know he’s not for the middle class and certainly not the poor. I applaud Frank Vandersloot acomplishments, however until the rest of the world achieve their wealth there is a need for a President with compassion and sincere concerns and intentions for those less fortunate. We will all reap what we sow, here and in eternity.

S.M. Clark - June 18, 2012

Thank you, Frank VanderSloot, for your hard, diligent work and for your MANY examples of generosity to those less fortunate … We consider it a privilege to be a part of the Melaleuca, Inc. “team” — having purchased your wonderful products each month for more than 20 years now — AND we will continue to enjoy referring friends and family to the company you have so carefully built, one with impeccable integrity. What you have ACCOMPLISHED, Frank, speaks so loudly that we cannot even hear what Mr. O. has to SAY ! May God continue to bless and protect you and your family.

Joseph V Dunn - June 19, 2012

Frank VanderSloot: I salute you for your courage in speaking out. President Obama dishonors The Office of President when he uses such tactics to further his cause.

Carl York - June 20, 2012

Deepest thanks to Sondra Clark and Rob Bluey,
and last to Heritage’s contributers and to Heritage Foundation’s scholarly staff, both paid and volunteer.
Exposing wrongdoing by a President is worth noting and alarming.
Thanks for wiseing us conservatives up.
But if Obama were to publicly retract his Enemy list remarks…and appologise to the American Heritage supporters where would that get us?. .What would it SOLVE??..
Would any one at Heritage like to make a video explaining to the American people the untold story of Congress, the committees and sub committees ,
About the fate of 95% of the Bills, Ammendments, and Acts written and submitted each year.
Tell us about how the brightest and best Senators and House members who truely base their corrective documents on the information made available by Heritages “Think Tank” …
Then tell us how sickening it is for “Solution men” Like Kevin Brady, Tom Coburn, and a “Core” of 30 or so true Patriotic Consitutionalist fiscal conservatives Like Tim Demint, Ron Paul, and Mike Lee watch in Horror as these Great works of Corrective Measures are ….”READ ONCE in the House floor AND THEN REFERRED TO COMMITTEE…….
To be FORGOTTEN,….TO LAY on some dusty messy desk. Languishing and ignored while slow death caused by time restraints eventually pulls the life support plug on hundreds of such Bills now STUCK in Committee . Many of which are the”genious plan that never was”.
Tell us Americans How to Strike At the “HEAD OF THE SNAKE”. And disreguard the “RATTLING TAIL”
With All Due Respect., Stop Pulling Punches.
“SWING AWAY” at the Heart of the problem. Heritage, “SWING AWAY”.
