Today Rep. Allen West (R-FL) addressed a packed crowd at The Heritage Foundation to discuss how the battlefield in the 21st century has necessitated a change in military strategy.

The speech was the closing event for Protect America Month, an annual series of events highlighting the importance of funding our military.

The Washington Post immediately posted their coverage of Rep. West’s remarks, noting:

In making the case for increased military spending, West, a retired Army veteran, drew upon several anecdotes from his 22 years of military service, telling the audience that at times, “my friends who were in tank units had to use golf carts to practice tank tactics.”

Watch West’s full speech below.

God Bless You Sir ! You are impressive !! We need men like you to lead us through the next 10 difficult years.

Darryl Henry - June 2, 2011

Outstanding Speech. I fully agree. I am a Florida Voter and I whish you would run for the Senate.

Dubowski - June 2, 2011

Super assessment in my opinion. Wish Rep. Allen West could be our Presidential Candidate.

Robert Augeri - June 2, 2011

Pamela Bennett - June 2, 2011

Thank you for the opportunity to see the video.
I will be praying hard that God will put Allan West under conviction to run for President. He is the 21st Century George Washington.

Derald Crissup - June 2, 2011

Very impressive

Paul G. Littlefield - June 2, 2011

I liked what Rep West had to say about keeping a balance in military defence preparedness. Reagan said that (bullies) never attack the strong only the weak. However, as urgent, important and critical as his remarks and advice may be, it is well established that the ruling elites in Washington, those in the government and thouse outside of government and of both political parties, do not want America to be the strongest militarily that it can be to fight for our country’s survival. And that is an abomination. Could it be that God has turned against us because so many of us have turned against Him?

Howard Heineke - June 2, 2011

Allen West for President!
If not, then a new president needs this hero as Secretary of Defense and State.

Edward Byerly - June 2, 2011

Please Mr. West:
RUN, RUN , This Country Need You!!!!

Gerald Olson - June 2, 2011

Thank-you , Sir for standing tall for our nation. May God bless you.

Marjorie Murray - June 2, 2011

Allen West was articulate and focused. He, in my opinion, is clearly someone who knows “war strategy”. I enjoyed listening to what he had to share. Oh! I was happy to learn that he is a conservative.

Robert Shannon - June 2, 2011

How do we get 300 more like this man in Congress. He is a breath of fresh air. Lets draft him to run for President.

Terie - June 2, 2011

WOW!!! This is wonderful!!! Allen West is exactly what our country needs!!! I pray he will run for President!!! I have posted this on my facebook page!!!

bernie - June 2, 2011

This guy is awesome… He actually has common sense. I hope he goes a long long way, but I doubt it…

Milt Burford - June 2, 2011

Rep. Allen West should be run for President… He’s a winner…

Dr. John - June 2, 2011

Hooah! POTUS material.

Liz Hoffman - June 2, 2011

Very informative. Mr. West has given me hope that we can fill Congress with men as patriotic, intelligent, and passionate as he.

Lisa Lambert - June 2, 2011

An inspiration and a true leader. Listening to him gives me hope in our new politicians. I’m proud to say that he’s from Florida.

Doug Anderson - June 2, 2011

I have great respect for Allen West. I believe he would be a great Vice President, or even a great President.
Please pay attention to this great man.
Thank you,
Doug Anderson
New Braunfels, Texas

Gerald Strickland - June 2, 2011

Thank you, Representative West, for standing strong and speaking the truth! God Bless you! I am a retired Viet Nam veteran.

valerie wynn - June 2, 2011

We need Allen West NOW. After listening to this address at the heritage foundation I know he IS the man we need in the oval office. Everyone needs to start blogging and facebooking about Allen West. He must become a household name. I can’t imagine the dems or the lame stream media trying to demonize this man. How foolish they’d look. But, they would be exposed for what they are and that would be entertaining to watch. So If we can’t have him for 2012, I’ll make it my goal to get him well known for 2016. I’m betting everyone watching this feels the same.

Cindy Rushing - June 2, 2011

We have a truly enlightened Patriot in Rep. West. I look forward to the day that he leads us from the oval office. (It appears the infamous teleprompter will be moth-balled!)

Michael Kersey - June 2, 2011

Mr West is a perceptive man who understands we live in a world of tigers. He believes in the uniqueness of the USA and in the sanctity of individual rights and responsibilities vs a domineering and stifling central government. While I do not know him personally, his countenance and presence appear genuine and selfless. Impressive and believable and refreshing.

Thomas D. HaWK - June 3, 2011

Rep West speech was masterful, being factual. As
a retired career soldier, and having been schooled
in Political Science, I understand and support his
concerns. Russia has not reduced its Nuke capabi-
lity, but rather have modernized in into a highly mobile
force. This is, as we the USA have failed to disarmed,
and have not tested, replaced, upgraded nor modernized our Nuclear warheads. China is spending
tons of our money on their blue water navy.
We should be spending more money on our Navy,
and the fleet Marines (along with the new generation
of vessels, such as the USS New York, which is
the heart and soul of a mobile Marine force).
Rep West is a fresh voice. I hope that our Republican Conservatives pay attention. I do not expect the followers of the President to understand the great
danger China, Russia and Iran pose to our national

LEONARD BERUBE - June 3, 2011

Larry Dermody - June 3, 2011

We are so very fortunate to have Allen West among us as a conservative spokesman and legislator. His speech was dead on target and were he not a member of congress and still on active duty, he’d be someone who should sit on the JCS of the military. One of the most cerebral people in congress!!!

MIKE MCCULLOUGH - June 3, 2011

JoAnn Howell - June 3, 2011

Thank you Sir for your on going service to our country. I have just added clarity to integrity, honor and reverence as my description of you.

Roy Smith - June 3, 2011

Congressman West’s understanding of the importance of strategic thinking and planning is outstanding which does not appear to be the case in our present leadership structure. He would make an excellent National Security Advisor for Sarah Palin.

Elena Worrall - June 3, 2011

I’ve been very impressed with Mr. West since I first saw a YouTube video of one of his speeches several years ago. I was delighted that he won the Florida election, and now I’m even more impressed with this man. May God continue to bless his efforts.

Dar - June 3, 2011

I’d vote for him for president. I like his logical, knowledgeable reasoning. I don’t hear that when I listen Obama and most other current leaders. Most current leaders make me doubt their credibility. There is an old saying that nice guys come in last, so I think that we must negotiate from a position of organized strength!

Gail - June 3, 2011

Spot on. We need about 100 more like him in the House, and 50 more in the Senate.

Now if they will address the “real Medicare issues” the 40+ years of donor palm greasing, instead of just cut and gut, asking the patient what red tape they encounter in dealing with Medicare, instead of the congress person turned lobbyist we might actually save Medicare.

K Myers - June 3, 2011

Col. West is articulate on this and numerous other topics and perhaps the most polished and knowledgeable of any Conservative within arms reach of running for POTUS. He’s not posing as a Conservative, he is one, and an unflinching one at that. We need someone of his caliber to unseat the current golfer we have living at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave posing as POTUS. And I sincerely think we need a military man of his experience with his insights and courage to say what it is we are truly fighting as an enemy – Islamic intent to eradicate all that is not Islamic. Thank you, Col. West, for being a strong voice for the Conservative side and never backing down – you’re a statesman, not a politician, and that’s what this country needs at the helm in the years to come. Please consider a run for POTUS.

Richard Pulver - June 3, 2011

As an OLDER white middle class AMERICAN citizen, I find Allen West a breath of fresh air. He is so articulate and to the point. I hope someone in the next REPUBLICAN administration recognizes him as a potential Secretary of Defense candidate. I fully appreciate both his military and political service to our great nation. For the most part, I have never heard him say some thing that I did not agree with, especially regarding our military. Unlike most Democrats, Allen is a humble GOD fearing man. We, as a nation to commend him and those that may be like him.

Bob Georgia - June 3, 2011

This is a good man. He brings clarity to so many of the problems facing our great country. Oh that there were more men like him in our government to really lead us in the direction we should go. God bless you, Allen West.

Eph6:12 - June 3, 2011

Now why is he not running for President? Rep. A. West understands that the federal government and the commander in chief, in particular, is suppose to protect America. I would love to see him drafted for president.

Gary Fultz - June 3, 2011

Excellent, finallly some gets it!

Dexter Liu - June 3, 2011

IN Col. Allen West I see a very bright future for America!

Rod DeRego - June 3, 2011

Outstanding perspective and vision. He presents the facts and his opinion in such a clear and concise manner. He is such a good example of the professional military education system. We need more Allen Wests in DC.

Jay E Boudreau - June 3, 2011

It is a pleasure to hear someone knowledgable speak on national defense for a change. National defense is one of the few responsibilities our government needs to meet. Few past Presidents have had the experience to fulfill this all important responsibility. Representative West does.

Mark-Jill Toevs - June 3, 2011

Excellent presentation, Congressman West! You’ve shifted my top priority from our economy to world security; clearly, securing international stability will result in economic strength here. America needs a strong leader; as President, you would serve all of US–including Florida. God bless you and your family.

Dan Stott, Hurley NY - June 3, 2011

Thank you, Rep. West! I urge everyone who hears his message to share it on their facebook page and to urge their friends to use and support both the Heritage Foundation and The Fox News Channel to educate themselves. An uninformed electorate cannot make informed decisions when they enter the voting booth. Many people make decisions based only on emotion; others decide on facts and logic. We need to influence our friends to become part of a fact-based majority. That’s the least we can do to help save our great nation.

Carol Paul - June 3, 2011

Allen West……..what a beautiful mind! Are we going to waste it??????????? Congress is only a start for him, if we are smart.

G L Stout - June 3, 2011

A man of interity who can think on his feet; what contrast to our current President! We need to pray and otherwise promote him so that he rises thru the political ranks to his chosen office.

EdWright - June 3, 2011

Man!! Very impressive.
And there are some jack asses that say Obama is a “great Orator”, Listen to Col. West !! This man is great. ( oh and no teleprompter)

Johanna Jacoba Engel - June 3, 2011

Great speech!! I would like to see West for President.

Robert Hurley - June 3, 2011

I’ve been impressed with Congressman Allen West for some time now. This speech has only reenforced my high regard and respect for him. I know he lacks experience but I’d love to see him as a vice presidential candidate on the republican ticket.

BUCKEYE GEORGE - June 3, 2011

Bravo, very Reagan-esque–Allen West is a conservative rockstar!

Steve Juhan - June 3, 2011

West is great! He is an expert on the topic. This guy should be more than just a congressman. He is more Presidential than most of our 2013 Republican candidates.

Billy Cunningham - June 3, 2011

You sir are a great patriot. Your standing up for the constitution and the found fathers is refreshing. Except for you, Sara, Michelle, and Hannity you do not hear about returning to the principles of our founders. You should not categorically rule out running for president. Remember George Washington and Abe Lincoln had little legislative experience. As long as you hold to the principles of the founders are are willing to take on the progressives and liberal justices, we would be willing to give you the chance to correct the course of the country.

joe &carmen feramisco - June 3, 2011

allan west has a great american view of military and political actions that this country should listen to .we need bold and patriotic leaders, not afraid to say the things a majority of americans feel.god bless allan west andgod bless america.

Barbara Rogus - June 3, 2011

This man, Allen West, belongs in the White House. May
be he needs to hear “Your country needs you” for a
very particular job.

Roy Smith - June 3, 2011

The Q&A was better than the prepared remarks, and when I closed my eyes, I thought I was listening to a new Secretary of Defense. He’s the man.

Steven Love - June 3, 2011

I took the time to view the video of Congressman Allen West’s speech. I wasn’t aware of his extensive military
background and education. He has a good handle of where this nation is going and what is needed to get us back on track. We are fortunate to have him as a member of Congress. We now need to have more members of like thinking. May God continue to bless
Congressman West.

Kratz - June 3, 2011

Thank you for inviting Rep West to speak. He strikes me as a LEADER which is sorely missing in our White House today. Makes me proud to be an Army retiree, and even his blue navy comments were well received.

patsann - June 4, 2011

Thank you Alan West. When the present is scarey and the future looks dark for America, you are a beacon of light and my heart sings for America.

Gary Vasher - June 4, 2011

When the time comes, I hope God wants him to lead this country as much as my wife and I do.

Geppetto - June 4, 2011

I became aware of the Islamic roots of the threat in the Middle East some years back and was fortunate enough to catch a glimpse (on an internet video clip) of this man when he was campaigning in Florida. He stood head and shoulders above all the candidates who ran for elective office in 2010, especially on this issue which continues to be buried at our peril.
I live in North Carolina but contributed to his campaign in Florida and told anyone who’d listen that this guy was one to keep an eye on. I’ve been watching him every chance I’ve had since, waiting for him to falter like many of our politicians do but he continues to loom larger. Reading through the many comments it is apparent that all here see exactly what I see. Men like Colonel West do not appear often enough on the American political scene. He is indeed a breath of fresh air. We can only hope and perhaps help in whatever ways open to us, to move him up to the highest political office where his courage, intelligence, broad knowledge base, experience, clarity of vision and unashamed willingness to speak his mind is desperately needed.

P. Wells - June 4, 2011

This man is my choice for President! THIS IS the kind of intellignet leadership we need in the White House, he has the vision, common sense, intelligence, education, and real world experience. I think he might be surprised at the people that would rally behind him if he chose to run, I’m just a middle aged white woman and have never been involved in Politics, but I would campaign for this man (as in work till I drop to get him in office). He is founding father’s material!!! Pray that God puts it in his heart to run people, pray! :))

Lorraine Keppel - June 4, 2011

Why is this man not runnigng for president???? He is remarkably intelligent and has exactly what it takes to lead this country!!

Cheryl - June 4, 2011

Mr. Allan West…. I hope you run for president in 2012…we need a good candidate desperately!

Ronald Corte - June 4, 2011

God Bless you Allen West! I hope that God, you and your family decide you can better serve your country as the President and Commander in Chief in the not too distant future. You are a thinker and a visionary and that is exactly what this country needs. You have my vote!

Laura Potter - June 4, 2011

You are a great teacher. Clear and easy to understand. We need you and others who see clearly and can express the needs of this great nation. Thank you.

Barbara Foster - June 5, 2011

This Country needs Allen West to run for President at this time in our history. I hope he will run. .

W. Mattson - June 5, 2011

I almost didn’t watch this video since the title didn’t attract me. I’ve seen some of Allen West’s remarks before and recognized his command of various subjects. He really brings to light that the battle field is the sum total of the whole spectrum of the military and national policies etc. I totally agree with his statements. I think he is going to be a great American leader in whatever he chooses.

Jane - June 5, 2011

Allen West for President Because America needs a Hero

Schweizer - June 5, 2011

Col. Allen West, or someone of his caliber, with his convictions, his code of honor and his principles, is exactly what we need in this country. A clarity of vision of what these United States of America are all about. What we do not need is to re-build foreign refineries, pipelines, cities, and economies, lest we first solve our own domestic problems and take care of our needs. Unless we are challenged by foreign hostile action, or foreign special interests, we have no business involving ourselves in foreign Nation building problems, and only then, if we are challenged and formally asked to do so, duly compensated for our actions, then we might have reason doing so as a last resort. And only then are we to do so if such action is in the best interests of these United States, and the wellbeing and security of its people! One class in this great Country of ours, with no free lunch unless the recipient it is duly handicapped and qualified to receive such aid, and the ability to succeed in a freedom loving and independent Nation, where discrimination is illegal, and Fair Trade is the prerequisite to Free Trade!

Far too long have we been complacent about the inner workings of our political system, our Congress and the house of representatives. Most citizens have no idea that members of Congress can retire with the same pay after only one term, that they specifically exempt themselves from many of the laws they have passed (such as being exempt from any fear of prosecution for sexual harassment, fiscal improprieties, abuse of our constitution, etc, etc) while ordinary citizens must live under these laws, as they should. The latest is to exempt themselves from Healthcare Reform… in all of its oppressive splendor. It is hardly the democratic or fiscally responsible way of conduct. We must not have an elite that is permitted to put themselves above the law. I truly don’t care if they are Democrat, Republican, Independent, or whatever. The Obama revolution is real, it is in full swing, and I fear this cancer has already run its course. The reversal of such massive political corruption is but wishful thinking. Short of a bloody conflict and without the full support of our legal system the return to our constitutional values is all but a dream.
If ever there was the need for a proposed 28th Amendment to the United States Constitution, then this is it: “Congress shall make no law that applies to the citizens of these United States that is not applied with equal and full force upon our Senators and/or Representatives; and, Congress shall make no law that applies to the Senate members and/or Representatives which does not apply equally to the citizens of these United States!

quentin feldick - June 7, 2011

It’s a shame we have an anti-american president who will never have one percent of the vision and common sense of Allen West. What a great command of the subject. I would follow you into any battle that we may have to wage.
quentin feldick

Mary Ann DeRhodes - June 7, 2011

God Bless Allen West! Please run for president.

Christina Decker - June 7, 2011

Rep. West, you are fantastic. Well spoken, clear headed, thoughtful. I hope to be able to soon vote for you for president.

Wendy Amendola - June 7, 2011

I thought Col. West’s talk was outstanding. I would love to see him run for the President. We need someone like him to straighten out this country. He is a no-nonsense, humble and deep thinking individual, a true Patriot and lover of America.

tom - June 12, 2011

I wanna vote for this guy

tom - June 13, 2011

Please run for president!

Robert E. Pitcher - June 14, 2011

You are a Man that I am sure God is proud call you his son. Should you run for President, Be it known you have my vote and millions upon millions of others. Bring in Sarah Palin (Another honest American) as your Vice President. There would be no way we could miss to have our Great Country back once again, May God Bless You and Yours and Thank You for Serving our beloved Country! Please move obama out before it’s too late for any of us!

J Tom - June 15, 2011

What an inspiration! It’s an honor to be from the state of Florida although not from Col. West’s district. This man is not a politician, he is a statesman. God bless you, Allen West, may your kind increase.

Mike M - June 18, 2011

Very good orator of words, no umms or uhhs like someone we know. This is what happens when you have conviction and believe in what you say no filler words just purposeful speaking which is how it should be.

Cathleen Neese - June 19, 2011

Please run for President! We need men like you Mr. West.

Larry Diegelman - June 23, 2011

What a breath of fresh air in our generally superficial (sound bite) oratory. My interpretation of his vision of a “National Security Roadmap” sees the cornerstone for building our national “mission statement”.
Successful development of the roadmap won’t be easy, but it will encapsulate America’s goals/objectives in the broad categories of National Defense, Economics, and Energy.
This man exhibits a tremendous grasp of the nation’s needs and the capability to present solutions in a measured, well researched and thought out, manner.
God Bless!

Marilyn Day - June 26, 2011

Thank you sir, for your service and for you honesty. Listening to your thoughts and your answers to questions was time well spent and you have my whole hearted agreement. May God Bless you and your continued service to America
