On Tuesday, pro-life members of Congress filed a discharge petition in the hopes of forcing a vote on the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which would protect babies born alive after a failed abortion attempt. Supporters need to build a bipartisan coalition of 218 lawmakers to sign a discharge petition that will force a vote on the House floor, circumventing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.
Heritage’s sister organization, Heritage Action for America, mobilized its grassroots army of activists, the Heritage Action Sentinels. On Wednesday, more than 50 Sentinels flew in to Washington, D.C. to meet with members of Congress and their staff to urge them to sign the discharge petition. According to Action, Sentinels will continue this momentum back in districts over Easter recess.
