Even with the public outcry against Planned Parenthood, there is opposition in Congress to ending the organization’s federal funding. Some lawmakers are insisting they need more facts before acting.

Heritage expert Sarah Torre gives all the facts Congress needs to know about Planned Parenthood.

  1. Planned Parenthood has become a billion-dollar organization on the backs of taxpayers. They earned $128 million in revenue with over $1.4 billion in net assets last year. In the same year, federal and state governments gave them over $528 million to fund their lucrative programs.
  2. Planned Parenthood performs one in three abortions in the U.S. They reported performing 327,653 abortions last year. Former employees have even made allegations that there are mandatory “abortion quotas” each affiliate must meet.
  3. Planned Parenthood emphasizes abortions instead of preventative care. They made only 1,880 adoption referrals and just 18,684 prenatal services last year. Even cancer screenings at Planned Parenthood have decreased 50 percent since 2004.
  4. Planned Parenthood has been accused of financial fraud with taxpayer dollars. In 2013, an affiliate payed a settlement of over $4 million to Texas for Medicaid fraud. Similar investigations revealed over $8 million in possible fraud across nine states.
  5. Planned Parenthood fights laws that protect women and children. They have opposed legislation that would protect infants born alive after failed abortions and tried to derail an anti-human trafficking bill because the legislation included a longstanding and widely-supported policy against taxpayer funding of abortion.
  6. Planned Parenthood stands accused of jeopardizing the health and safety of women and girls. They have been accused by pro-life advocacy groups of abetting the sex trafficking of minor girls and at least four affiliates have been similarly accused of neglecting the health and safety of patients.
  7. Women can receive wider range of care at other centers. In addition to roughly 1,200 federally qualified health clinics there are over 2,000 pregnancy centers that provide medical testing, prenatal care, ultrasounds and child-birth classes, among other services to women facing unplanned pregnancies.

Policymakers looking to put limited taxpayer funds to more efficient and effective use should redirect those dollars to centers and clinics that can provide more comprehensive care for women and which don’t provide abortions.

Do you think the government should be funding Planned Parenthood?

Chan Bailey - August 14, 2015

Planned Parenthood is nothing but an abortion business. PP should not receive 1 penny of taxpayer money. Leaving out the belief of many that abortion is murder, not one cent of taxpayer money should ever be spent on selective surgery, which is what the vast majority of abortions are. Insurance companies and their customers should not be required to pay for selective surgeries, which is what the vast majority of abortions are.

Robert - August 14, 2015

Heck no!!

Millie - August 14, 2015

And any state, who wishes to opt out shouldn’t be scared of reprisal. Obama should be impeached over do many decisions he’s made, but his bark is worse than his bite. Tenth amendment.

James Prestridge - August 14, 2015

HELL NO! Ancient Israel (586-568 BC) tried it, Roman empire tried it, & see what happened!

Scott - August 14, 2015

Our tax dollars are preforming murder!
Defund Planned Parenthood!!!!!!!

Edward Weber - August 14, 2015

Overall Planned Parenthood does a good service for women. I think the drama being pushed by those against aborthion is a mistake since the fetal tissue helps further life saving research.

Barbara J Warren - August 14, 2015

I am against the government funding planned parenthood after reading about the founder of the organization .I am a black woman and am deeply a shame of our country and government.

Theresa czyzyk - August 14, 2015

absolutely! thank goodness that you’re talking about it!

Robert Appleby - August 14, 2015

You have 7 good reasons for not funding Planned Parenthood, but you do not list the one that is dominant over all.
That is: There is no constitutional basis for our Federal Government to support non-profit organizations, regardless of what their mission is, or how much the public agrees with that support. It does not fall within the enumerated powers given to the Federal Government by the US Constitution.

Dean Urmston - August 14, 2015

Absolutely not! Defund them.

Paulletta Lovett - August 14, 2015

Planned Parenthood has from the very beginning been a plan to stop parenthood. It should not be funded in anyway by our tax dollars. It is a disgrace to our great nation

teresa nazareth - August 14, 2015

Definitely not.

Stan Kern - August 14, 2015

The taxpayer should not be burdened with the cause and effect of personal bedroom activity or decisions, except involving the accountability of what is deemed illegal and enforceable. In order for us to diminish the size of government, our people have to start taking on the responsibilities that accompany their personal decisions and actions. Government, like any business, gets larger when there is greater demand for its services.

Elaine Gaines - August 14, 2015

In no way should government be funding PP! The things they do should not even be allowed to take place, much less be funded by the taxpayers! What a travesty! I was 7-10 when the Nazis were doing similar acts, and it is so hard to believe that our culture has sunk so low as to allow this happening here.

Theresa czyzyk - August 14, 2015

Appreciate the facts! I would think with the new healthcare law insurance or medicaid mandate there is no reason to fund such an organization – birth control pills & abortion drugs are covered. Abortion is not to be covered by tax payers & as we’ve stated for years, planned parenthood is a questionable but profitable billion dollar abortion industry that destroys lives. Thank you for sharing!

Donald Cox - August 14, 2015

No, the government should not be funding abortion, the brutal taking of human life. Unwanted pregnancy may be an inconvenience, even an embarrassment, but anyone entering into sexual activity should bear the responsibility of outcomes that may come with it or else forego it. Human life is sacred.

Jo Humber - August 14, 2015

Planned Parenthood should NOT receive one dime of taxpayer money. Taxpayers should not be forced the pay for the killing of unborn babies. All the talk about the “good” that Planned Parenthood does is a lot of BS.

Helen Durant - August 14, 2015

THE GOVT SHOULD NOT BE FUNDING PLANNED PARENTHOOD.All of the countless reasons notwithstanding- because of budgetary limitation that money should be used for our military- thus protecting all Americans. The other reasons you listed are all important. I totally agree.

Jerry Metcalf - August 14, 2015

No funding for planned parenthood

Joseph W. Allen - August 14, 2015

I think Planned Parenthood should receive no taxpayer dollars.

Richard Robinson - August 14, 2015

We should not fund Planned Parenthood, because they are committing murder as they abort babies. Our courts need to declare that a fetus is a human being.

Gordon Humphrey - August 14, 2015

We should not give taxpayer money to Planned Parenthood or any other organization the performs abortions!

Frances Moore - August 14, 2015

Taxpayers should NOT be funding Planned Parenthood. Taxpayers should not be funding abortions through any means at all. Why is there a debate about zeroing the funding of Planned Parenthood? This is pretty cut and dried IMO. Does Congress have any spine at all? The USA is made to look barbaric with the abortion of more than 327,000 babies last year just through Planned Parenthood. Wake up, America!

Don Sanders - August 14, 2015

Why are we funding murder?

Thomas F. Jones - August 14, 2015

Planed Parenthood is a certainly a misnomer ” Let us handle your abortion” better fits there mission. There are more than enough organizations truly providing real service to Women. Tax payer money should not help fund there murderous mission. Tom.

Brian Hoyt - August 14, 2015

Life begins at conception. I do not want my tax dollars going to the murder of innocent children. If a woman wants an abortion she can pay for it herself.

Bonnie K. - August 14, 2015

Government is in an excessively ridiculous amount of areas of our society and we must reduce their far reach. Planned Parenthood (what a contradiction to what they actually do) is a very good place to begin defunding these agencies that the majority of people don’t want to have their tax dollars going to support. EPA is one, IRS is out-of-control too, and there are many others that we pay for, many without our consent or knowledge. This administration has blatantly failed at the 2 paramount responsibilities of the U.S. government; first and foremost to protect the citizens from foreign or domestic enemies and 2nd to uphold & follow our Constitution.
DEFUND Planned Parenthood NOW!!!

Wayne B. Shepherd - August 14, 2015

Planed Parenthood is immoral and a waste of tax payers money.

Martha Perry - August 14, 2015

Dwain Alexander - August 14, 2015

Stop all tax based funding to planned parenthood!

Diane - August 14, 2015

No t it is not right that they do that they are getting rich of it stop it now

rond wolff - August 14, 2015

No!!! Please give nothing to planned parenthood. I am becoming ashamed of this once great country of ours, we once stood for freedom and protecting the underprivileged. The USA government now seems to be bowing/cowering to whichever ‘child/group’ is throwing the biggest for our the one who had the biggest allowance. Why would the governing authorities even consider giving any amount of money (or any other type of beneficial aid) to an organization that targets low income families and makes money off of a human death! All the while using the ‘ extremely generous amount of granted’ money that some other truely careing and compassionate organizations could be doing some real ‘good’ with?

John Bouvier - August 14, 2015

The government (and U.S. Citizens) SHOULD NOT be funding “Planned” Parenthood. Those who did not “plan” should be responsible for their

Bill Coates - August 14, 2015

Planned Parenthood exists primarily to grow and perpetuate itself, like many groups that have latched onto the government teat. It still has the holier-than-thou attitude that originated with Margaret Sanger and the eugenics movement, and is quite adept at finding language to justify and excuse itself. It encourages individual irresponsibility, and for that reason alone should be defunded; society has very little safety margin for irresponsibility at this point.

Darla - August 14, 2015

Planned Parenthood must be defunded and should have been defunded long ago. Margaret Sanger’s true goals have been masked from the public, but her disregard for human life is easily documented and her organization has continued her eugenics position resulting in the deaths of millions of unborn.

Bob Erickson - August 14, 2015

Planned parenthood is a misnomer. It definately should be not funded. Why do so much of our tax money go to goofffffy organizations. No wonder we are deep in red ink. We give our money to people who hate us, how smart is that???

Gerry Tischler - August 14, 2015

The State or Federal governments should not give one dime of taxpayer money to Planned Parenthood.

Fredrick Yerrick - August 14, 2015

John Huston - August 14, 2015

Duane hardesty - August 14, 2015

Defund and prosecute everyone of these evil people. In addition, let’s publicize the names and amount of EVERY politician they support….at evety level of government.

No way, this is not only murdering these
Little babies, but now they murder than
Sell their body parts for a profit.
This makes me sick!!!!!!

David Caraballo Sr - August 14, 2015

NO!! Plan Parenthood has become a Blood draining inmoral non-profit organization that has ever existed. It has done nothing but lie, cheat and abuse all of it’s client’s and the American Tax payer. It should not be labeled an non-profit organization. It has broken many laws and still has not been Charge or Convicted. It’s Time to Close this demonic company down!

Richard Esplin - August 14, 2015

I believe Planned Parenthood should be not receive any federal funds and hope that they will be shut down. I wonder what kind of human beings would be involved such an operation.

Beverly kymes - August 14, 2015

We as taxpayers should not have our money given tofund an organization to which we are opposed for many reasons. If someone believes in the group then they could support them however and in whatever way they want. Just don’t use my meager finds for such an organization.

Olli SIlander - August 14, 2015

Absolutely not! Heritage should make public the name of every politician who receives PP donations to embarrass them and reflect the reason for their support for the organization.

Scarlett Anderson - August 14, 2015

No I do not think our government should be funding Planned Parenthood and I believe they should all be tried for the crimes they have committed.

stephen palmer - August 14, 2015

The obvious answer that you are looking for is NO. Not only do I think that the government should fund planned parenthood, I think they should be shut down and prosecuted to the full extent of the law for first degree murder. That’s my feeling, however, it is far far more complicated then that. In modern day America there is a vast rift between the beliefs of the people. One such sub-culture (for whatever reason) believe that life begins at conception. The other believes that life begins after birth so to them abortion is nothing more then removing meat from a woman and why not make a buck from the sale of it. There is also the fact that these practices, ie: killing children, sacrificing young maidens to the Gods, mutilation, the sex trade, and many more have been going on all over the world in different cultures since the beginning of mankind and are still practiced in many cultures today. This is part of human history and beliefs. In our so called civilized society the majority of people think these practices are immoral and sickening. I have talked to many people about this practice and they either don’t want to hear about it, don’t care, or know nothing about it. This is true of almost all of our problems today and the reason we have so many. People are wrapped up in their own little worlds and ignore what really is going on. I had a date last night and after dinner I asked the girl I was with what she thought about planned parenthood and the killing of babies. Her answer was I don’t know anything about it and don’t want to hear it. I then asked what she thought about the Iran deal. Her answer was what Iran deal. Fortunately it did not effect the rest of the evening, but she is not alone. I get this from a lot of people. That is what is wrong with our Country today…

Doug Richards - August 14, 2015

Phyllis Ulrich - August 14, 2015

Planned Parenthood should not get government funding.

Emmett Scherrman - August 14, 2015

Please stop funding Planned Parenthood and end abortion, the killing of innocents

Helen K. - August 14, 2015

Thanks for getting the info about Planned Parenthood! It’s outrageous how they are spending our taxpayer money. No wonder our debt is so high. It’s immoral and terrible what they are doing!!

Catherine Doney - August 14, 2015

No, I am sick of my tax dollars going to Planned Parenthood. I wish all the states would defund it. Let those folks who believe in it carry the load and the consequences of there actions. I am so weary of the attitudes of women’s rights. I love kids, they are our future.

phyllis overly - August 14, 2015

ask DR. Carson about planned parenthood.
He explained how it all began and who and
why it was ever started. He explained it
all on national television– FOX NEWS

Donald Greene - August 14, 2015

The funding of Planned Babykillers … uh, Parenthood, is an Obamanation. These murderers thrive on killing infants in and out of the womb, collecting saleable body parts, and selling them on the open market. Their operations in every respect are nothing to the horrendous acts committed by Nazi Germany on humans in concentration camps. Yet our rogue president and the Democrat Party applaud their “work.” The faster we oust this monster from the White House (through legal process, of course), the better for all our citizenry.

Harold Brown - August 14, 2015

Why should taxpayers fund any govt endeavor other than National defense?

Scott sands - August 15, 2015

Absolutely, not a dime for any reason. They are an evil organization and I do not want any of the taxpayers hard earned money supporting their nefarious practices

kim - August 15, 2015

Yvonne & Dean Hall - August 15, 2015

Planned Parenthood should be defunded. The abortion is murder and that is one reason God is not blessing the U.S.A. The Republicans need to start doing something.

Stephen Johnston - August 15, 2015

Yes Planned Parenthood should be defunded ; The idea that this organization was founded on the basic concept of the underpinnings of eugenics is deplorable . They are one of if not the cause of the break up and destruction of the American family . That two reasons ; If they have been selling aborted baby parts ; The question is fore how long and is this beginning to look like the appearance of an abortion baby part business ? Seems too me if they have been making a large profit off selling aborted baby parts ; Then they need to be doing as many abortions as they can to maximize their profits . This is chilling and has a satanist overtone to it ! They are borderline murdering babies for profit ; This is criminal behavior and one of the worst of the worst types of felonies . They should be prosecuted and defunded permanently . Sincerely , Stephen C. Johnston

Kenneth Jones - August 15, 2015

Planned parenthood should be defunded and ultimately eliminated. it is unconscionable and an abomination to God. As a nation we are better than this and should fall to our knees and ask God for forgiveness of these atrocities. Our forefathers are turning over in their graves on the direction we have taken. I weep and pray for all of the children’s lives lost and the utter butchery they experienced. May God have mercy on our nation!

John Bisgrove jr - August 15, 2015

The current funding for Planed Parenthood should be diverted to other, more positively focused organizations currently serving woman’s’ needs. PP is capable of standing on their own.

Edward Michael Mulcahy - August 15, 2015

Abortion is wrong, except when mecessary to save the mother’s life. Defund Planned Parenthood.

gordon miller - August 15, 2015

I am not pro-life, but under the circumstances presented in the article and elsewhere, believe they should be de-funded.

Janet Eden - August 15, 2015

In view of the dreadful reports coming out of Planned Parenthood no federal funds should be allocated to them. They are NOT an advocate for women’s health.

Mark Davis - August 15, 2015

Your Q “should the GOVERNMENT fund “planned parenthood” is incorrect. Should taxpayers fund PP is the correct Q. Governments use our hard earned money to buy votes. The answer is NO.

Zora - August 15, 2015

Planned Parenthood is a racist and totally uncaring about women. Even the woman used to get abortions legalized has discovered this truth and turned from any involvement with PP. this should be a clear testament to the reality of PP.

Lynn - August 15, 2015

I agree that Planned Parenthood should not be given Federal dollars.

Carol Bartz - August 15, 2015

Planned Parenthood should not be funded with any tax payer money.

Steven Crain - August 15, 2015

I have to ask why taxpayer dollars are being provided to this organization in the first place. Based on your research, with $128 million in revenue and $1.4 billion in net assets – common sense leads me to believe they shouldn’t qualify for any form of assistance from the taxpayer. Just how low is the threshold for them to qualify for taxpayer assistance? Maybe a more important question to ask is who establishes this threshold and what can we do to remove them from any decision-making processes with regards to giving away taxpayer dollars? Maybe that’s the root of the real problem – carelessly giving away money (that’s not yours) to pretty much any organization that asks for it.

Henry C. Holder - August 15, 2015

Beverly Ratajak - August 15, 2015

Planned Parenthood has proven again and again that it deserves to be de-funded and and dismantled. It is in the abortion and baby-part selling business — they don’t need any money from taxpayers to support these hideous endeavors.

Mitchel Fritschle - August 15, 2015

No, the funds should be directed women’s health clinic.

Sylvia Berggren - August 15, 2015

No! The government should not be funding Planned Parenthood. Its an abortion clinic.

Mary - August 15, 2015

This is so amoral and horrible. I believe that an abortion should should be a last consideration. As a Nurse I believe these babies are treated more like trash or body parts for profit. Shame on Planned Parenthood! How can these people live with themselves? I look into the eyes of my grandchildren and can’t imagine life without them. They are precious gifts. If I wasn’t too old to adopt, I would. My Daughter had a very difficult time getting pregnant. And here we have medical people butchering infants. Not one cent of taxes should go to support this heinous act. You want an abortion, pay for it yourself and live with the decision. But, don’t expect Taxpayers like me to support your stupidity.

Dixie Wilsbacher - August 16, 2015

NO! I do not want my tax dollars going to Planned Parenthood!

Helen K. Overy - August 16, 2015

Ross McMillan - August 16, 2015

I have never seen such brutality in all my life. I have read about the German death camps and the human experiments that went on there. Please stop the carnage. Are we a civilized nation or not. Stop Them

Esther Sidat - August 16, 2015

Please, please inform all members of Congress of the above facts. I object that my tax dollars in any way contribute to this horror.

Retta - August 16, 2015

No, the government should NOT be funding Planned Parenthood.

Victress Jenkins - August 16, 2015

No they should not receive government funding. Especially due to the fact regarding the selling of aborted baby organs. Regardless of their so-called motives for helping people, they broke the law regarding the selling of body parts. The senate must say NO.

B Yeager - August 17, 2015

I think all funding should be stopped for Planned Parenthood. This is a gross misuse of taxpayer dollars.

Paula Pickle - August 17, 2015

absolutely not!

Tommy L Berry - August 17, 2015

The government should not support anyone who KILL unborn or born people. They also should not fund anyone supporting either party with funds for elections.

IT is a fact these “unborn” children are humans. GOD will judge this country

patricia calabrese - August 17, 2015

Absolutely not!!

Renee Szabo - August 17, 2015

No, PP should not get tax money.

Martha Webber - August 19, 2015

_PP is a travesty, which is why taxpayers need to be better informed on how their tax dollars are being used: selective surgery, which constitutes the vast percentage of abortions.

Susan - August 20, 2015

PP lies to women. Abortion doesn’t lead to freedom, it leads to death, death of a human child and death of a mother’s heart. God’s forgiveness is available but memory is a heartbreak that is hard to erase. Women need to share their stories; mine is a happy one as I chose life.

Mark Morton - August 21, 2015

Absolutely not! Isn’t the govt. breaking the law funding abortion with taxpayer funds?!

anne brown - August 22, 2015

Can’t believe they are not only getting our tax dollars .. but huge donations from corporations as well!

David D. Johnson - September 25, 2015

The President and the Democrats will not ever give in, even in the face of “NAZI-LIKE” video of taking apart living beings; they don’t care. Unfortunately, the Republicans, (even the so-called Republicans) are simply too stupid to understand there is NO WAY THEY WILL WIN THIS VOTE. Planned Parenthood will get funded and will give all the credit to the SOB Democrats. Because the press is in the pocket of the Democrats they will never tell the American people the truth; how very sad.

Frederick W Willis, Jr - October 2, 2015

Abortion is MURDER. PPH is Murder INC and it’s Officials should be put on trial for Murder, cruel and unjust acts deserving condemnation, prosecution and penalties imposed including execution.

Cora - October 21, 2015

I, myself am a full supporter of Planned Parenthood. I believe it is a great care center. A common misbelief is that abortion is the only thing the corporation deals with but umm… only 3 percent. So what happens with the other 97 percent of the company? 38% of the focus is the treatment and testing of sexually transmitted diseases and infections, 33.5 % is contraception, 14.5% is for cancer screening and prevention, 10.4% is for other women’s health services and the last 0.6% is for any other service. These percentages actually equal a decent amount of patients and by decent I mean millions of people throughout the country. Horrible organization right? How dare they provide amazing services for little to no price.

Lauren - October 21, 2015

I disagree with this whole arguement. Planned parenthood may hold one of the three places for abortions, but that is not all they do. They provide education, vitamins, safe sex, and other options on how to take care of a child such as adoption or just simply raising the child. You all sit here and base your whole opinion on the fact that abortions take place in planned parenthood but do not look at the entire picture.

MaeShell - November 15, 2015

The sad part is everyone is so focus on the abortion part and does not realized all of the other things that PP does for the community. People be more informed before making judgements. Abortions are a choice and the person who make the decisions must deal with it. Either way you look at it, they people will be a burden to the taxpayer, abortion or not. PP does a great deal in preventive medical care for men and women.

Gabby - November 16, 2015

Actually it is a federal law they cant not use tax dollars for abortions “except in the dire circumstances of rape, incest, or when the life of the woman is in jeoprady” (Planned Parenthood, 2015 AND NPR, 2015) . Might want to do some research before making extreme/false accusations. They provide SO many more services than abortions that are critical for women health especially in Alaska where it is difficult to find low-cost preventive care for a college student like me.

Alejandra Chavez - November 24, 2015

If you really were that interested in limiting abortion numbers, or eliminating them entirely, you’d change our sex ed courses, not sit around and complain about this. Have any of you actually researched this? “Adoption is always an option.” Tell that to the 510,000 children waiting to be adopted. If you aren’t complaining about this, you’re complaining about how your taxes go to help people on welfare. You complain but refuse to understand why people need welfare. If people can’t afford an abortion, what makes you think they can afford to carry a pregnancy to full term. Nonetheless, what makes you think they can afford having a child? Without Planned Parenthood, women all over the country would be left without basic healthcare, and basic bodily autonomy. Let’s review the services they offer:
38% STD testing and treatment for all genders
34% Birth control (that’s where we prevent unintended pregnancies, valiant “pro-life” folks)
15% Cancer screenings/ prevention
9% General women’s health and prenatal services
3% Abortion (which receives ZERO government funding)
1% Other health services (including adoption referrals and family practice services)

When you vote to defund Planned Parenthood, you aren’t defunding abortion. You are fighting to end affordable healthcare for women across the board.

John - February 8, 2016

10 reasons why abortion is not a pro-choice — ever.
Either humans have the right to life or humans don’t. Pre-born babies are clearly human people, therefore their right to life must be respected by law and by culture.

Good read.

All of this is rather controversial, and should not be discussed online.

shonn - March 3, 2016

1)Men should have no say so
3) If someone is raped, i don’t think they should have to keep that baby. There are other reason aside from just an unplanned pregnancy.

Eileen Rohan - March 9, 2016

well thank god no government money goes towards performing abortions!!

“Planned Parenthood cannot use the money it receives from the federal government for abortions anyway. According to the Department of Health and Human Service’s website, “by law, Title X funds may not be used in programs where abortion is a method of family planning.” Medicaid funding is restricted by the Hyde Amendment to only abortion cases involving rape, incest or endangerment to the life of the mother. Some states use their own funds under Medicaid to go beyond that. Seventeen states and, until recently, the District of Columbia pay for “medically necessary” abortions, according to the Guttmacher Institute. The federal budget deal now bans Washington, D.C., from using its funds to pay for abortions.” -factcheck.org

Marianne Donnelly - April 1, 2016

Stop funding for Planned Parenthood! Planned Parenthood allows irresponsible breeders to murder their baby’s and the taxpayers of the United States of America are sick of paying for their lack of ownership and responsibility. Marianne D. of Colorado

Bobby Newport - June 4, 2016

Y’all are pitiful people. Some of you are claiming that the only thing PP do is abortions like y’all work there. Everyone is so pro-life for a fetus that’s not been brought into the world, but once that “baby” is born, your hands are wiped clean of them. Oh yeah, pat yourselves on the back for saving this miracle baby. PP does so much for women, and it is a great place if you cannot afford the traditional doctor’s office, because let’s face it, they are ridiculous. It would be a great place for men too, if guys would get their head out of their asses and learn some sexual responsibility. Considering how poorly treated women are, especially when they are minorities, PP is just the place to discuss different contraceptives, hormone treatments, and different surgical procedures as well, without feeling that there is so much pressure to conform to our white society’s needs for more babies. Y’all want to save these babies, but when they’re born, you’re going to treat them like shit just like you treated their parents.

Fred Krause - July 8, 2016

I become more resolve in voting for any other candidate running for office other than the incumbent. Its time we put our government back to the ordinary people, store keeper, farmers, the guy down the street that cares about America, not just the next election. You have seen this week how corrupt the elite at the top have become. Dump those who have made a career out of politics and those that pander to the special interest groups like Planned Parenthood, or Black Lives Matter. Every city run by liberals are a lawless mess. God protect our officers, EMT’s and soldiers, and thank you to all who put their lives on the line to protect us.

Tarah - September 2, 2016

Y’all saying Planned Parenthood are idiots. Look at the facts and statistics. Abortions only make up 3% of their services. They are not just “an abortion business.” They also provide several important services for both men and women. I’d rather have my tax dollars fund this than stupid wars we keep going to. The Government literally funnels $598.5 BILLION into the military every year. This accounts for 54% of discretionary spending. Planned Parenthood only receives $528.4 MILLION. That doesn’t really seem like a lot when compared to the amount the military receives.

stephanie - October 10, 2016

Planned parenthood should not get funding from the Federal Government. When they first opened it was privately run and it should stay like this. When teenagers go in they are pregnant, and want abortions, they should not be able to fet help until their parents are informed. There are plenty of free clinics and other places people can go. Planned Parenthood takes insurance and gets paid by insurance companies and then gets double paid when the government gives them money too. Plus our tax dollars go to it too. Wrong. I do not pay taxes so that they pay for abortions. Just my opinion though. Like I said they were privately funded. Should stay that way. Plus I am in the military so that comment about military spending is crappy. If you have never served dont make comments about how much the govt spends on military.

Lynn - October 18, 2016

To the comment above, how do you think free clinics get the funding to stay open? They are almost the same thing as planned parenthood, they preform abortions just as much. And your argument about the parents having to be notified about a teenager getting an abortion, if the teen says their parents cant know then it would be illegal for the parent to be notified whether the teen is at PP, a clinic, or a hospital. Planned parenthood is a great thing and should not be defunded.

I have a few more facts to add: Margret Sanger was once an embryo, later, even a fetus. (see Ex 23:9, Lev 19:34, Deut 10:19, Psalm 146:9, Eph 2:12)

Carl - November 14, 2016

I don’t understand how everyone can talk about abortions like it’s a product on the shelf or something. It’s a very personal thing that women used to risk death for but are now lucky enough to have Planned Parenthood and other services to perform the operation safely. Isn’t that good?

Kierstin - December 11, 2016

Every comment I have thus far read for this ‘informative’ post compares murder to abortion, and it is filled with men discussing women’s rights, which in the 21st century, men have no belonging to the discussion of women’s rights or health. Let me ask all you nay-sayers, if your 13 year old daughter was raped and impregnanted by a man who was 30 years older, would you FORCE her to have and raise that child? Would you FORCE her to go through the pain and the suffering of child bearing and birthing a child who was the effect of destroying her innocence, childhood, and life? Would you actually force her to pay for the abortion if that was what she truly wanted? Or would you, as the head-strong and stubborn parent, pay it for her? Because if you pay it for her, why not pay for the same treatment you would for another person in that situation? You are all blindly looking into the face of abortion and rights because you see nothing more than something you have never had to go through. Abortion is a choice and a right that you can’t force upon anyone else. Thank you for reading my point of view on this VERY controversial topic.

jojo - December 14, 2016

Abortion is a womans choice, plus none of taxpayer money goes to abortion because its prohibited by law for federal funding to go towards abortion, it goes to other services like contraceptives

Kitty - January 3, 2017

I was diagnosed with chlamydia by planned parenthood and the gave me an antibiotic to cure it, the antibiotic caused me to develop a yeast infection. I set up another appointment the woman who scheduled my appointment didnt even ask my name and told me my appointment was at 10. She actually scheduled it for 1015. day of my appointment I had to wait in the lobby for over an hour just for them to tell me what I already knew. I also got an implant through them they told me it is supposed to last 4 years after a little bit of research I discovered it’s only supposed to last 3 years. I liked there services at first because they were quicker than my doctors office. But they could have gotten me pregnant without me even knowing it and they have messed up a few times now on my care. I dont think they should receive a penny from the government, they can’t even provide reliable care.

Steven Stone - January 6, 2017

I think any women that gets pregnant, but cant take care of the baby ,she should have that baby, then go to a catholic church and put the baby at the foot of the cross.the fathers of the church, and the followers of the church, togeather can raise that child.and trump will give them all the money they need.god told him to.if the women gets sick because of the pregnancy ,the congrigation will pay for all her doctors bills because god loves them more because the congrigation is better thay and more close to god.every woman should give an unwanted child to church members they are gods children.and if any member of the church is raped she should have that baby and raise it as her own.her outher children and husband will love that baby.it will remind them of the good time mommy had making that baby.remember god loves you more that any body else .you are so good .may god bless you with meany pregnancies

Leigh - January 7, 2017

“Of all Planned Parenthood health services, only 3 percent are abortion services. The breakdown of their different services are indicated in the chart below: Planned Parenthood receives about $450 million a year in federal funding. Of that, almost $400 million is reimbursement for services covered by Medicaid.” Planned parenthood I SO MUCH MORE than an “abortion business”. But as long as people believe that and do nothing to educate themselves about the history and the need in this country for affordable womens healthcare, the GOP will continue to feed on that ignorance and forward their agenda of sticking their noses where they don’t belong.

Claire - January 12, 2017

This website’s motto is building an America where freedom flourishes, and this article completely contradicts it. If you would look at how PP actually spends the money, taxpayers are not paying for abortions, they are paying for the comprehensive care that women need but they are unable to pay. Even if you disagree with abortions, you shouldn’t defund PP because it offers services for little to no cost for desperate women.

Sophia - January 12, 2017

Tax dollars that go to Planned Parenthood don’t go to abortion……. so although they provide abortion services our money isn’t funding abortions at all. Just health care

John Steinhaus - January 22, 2017

How could my tax money be used to support something that is against everything I believe? If I do not object, then I am supporting murder! Our Government should not support mass murder. The “other side ” does not see very well in the darkness!

Alisa Scapatici - January 24, 2017

Alternative facts?

Hannah - January 27, 2017

Planned Parenthood emphasizes abortions instead of preventative care. They made only 1,880 adoption referrals and just 18,684 prenatal services last year. Even cancer screenings at Planned Parenthood have decreased 50 percent since 2004.

Piper E - February 6, 2017

Everything in this article is absolutely not true. Are you seriously trying to say that Planned Parenthood jeopardizes the health of women and girls? Keeping women and girls healthy is exactly what planned parenthood is about. And they don’t just do abortions!

J.C. Kovach - February 10, 2017

I just spent an hour of reading the comments and now realize that the majority of those that want to stop Planned Parenthood from carrying out the murder of humans via abortions are not even aware that PP needs the dead infant’s organs, blood and DNA to collect (they call it harvesting) their major profits ! [the actual cash profits received is confidential & hidden] Planned parenthood is the foremost supplier of tissues to the Pharmaceutical Research groups. They do nothing to stop pregnancies and in fact want the number of pregnancies to increase. Their massive and partially hidden revenues are derived from the living tissue stem cells and organs that are kept alive with the belief that man can be made immortal. In fact, the need for ‘Embryonic Stem Cells’ to create cures has been superseded by the use of the patient’s own bone marrow extraction and identical DNA/RNA 100% match. Also, those believing that the spirit of the dead infant’s blood/tissue can be infused within their own body is exemplified in science-fiction and ancient cult beliefs. Many employees in the middle and upper management of Planned Parenthood’s believe that they are on the ‘Path To Eternal Life’ when in fact they are actually involved in ‘The Culture Of Death’ which is the collective extreme of selfishness as displayed in PP founder Margarite Sanger’s philosophical writings concerning the elimination of entire races. Planned Parenthood Must Be Stopped !

Sarah - February 11, 2017

I live in Southern Oregon and have a deep gratitude for the educational and health services I was fortunate enough to receive from Planned Parenthood. My friends and I were able to obtain essential reproductive education, birth control (aka PREVENTATIVE care), and annual exams critical to female health. Claims that Planned Parenthood “encouraged” abortions are absurdly unfounded. In all my experiences at various clinics, I didn’t even know they provided abortions. For those who argue they don’t want their tax money to go toward abortions: NONE of the federal funds received by Planned Parenthood go toward abortion services.

sarah - February 17, 2017

I have been a Planned Parenthood patient for 20 yrs. Not once has abortion been emphasized over preventative care. Ever. At 36 yrs old, my husband and I got pregnant this summer. There was never a hint of abortion. I believe in PP as a safe place for education of young women of their reproductive health. And their rights.

Liane - February 18, 2017

I too am a taxpayer, and I want MY tax money to fund Planned Parenthood. You are entitled to your opinion, as I am entitled to mine.
Our government – which is supposed to represent us – is so far removed from reality, it’s not funny. Personally, I think most politicians need a reality check. Maybe they should all have to give up their money and perks for a year, work at Walmart, and survive on what they earn there.
My reality: I grew up poor. If it wasn’t for Planned Parenthood, I would never have been able to have a GYN exam once I started menstruating – and, because of a medical problem they discovered which would have kept getting worse with time, chances are my husband and I would not have had our wonderful son.
Please, keep in mind – PP is not all about abortion.

Delia Jones - February 27, 2017

My understanding is that there is no direct government funding of planned parenthood, they only receive reimbursement through Medicaid for health services provided like any other entity that provides these services. How can we refuse reimbursement for legitimate medical care?

Matthew - March 7, 2017

Some of your statements are true and some not so much…

“Planned Parenthood performs one in three abortions in the U.S.”… I assume that is true and that is why you are against planned parenthood. If PP had never done an abortion, and did not advocate for a woman’s right to an abortion, would you have any other complaints? I think not, since all your other “offenses” could be said about any other large health care outfit.

Lets do the list:
1. “Planned Parenthood has become a billion-dollar organization on the backs of taxpayers…” i.e. they get paid for medical services performed like any other health care organization, 97% of which are NOT abortions.

3. “Planned Parenthood emphasizes abortions instead of preventative care.”… Nonsense. They do much more birth control, PAP smears and mammograms than they do abortions.

4. “Planned Parenthood has been accused of financial fraud…” Opponents have accused Planned Parenthood of all sorts of outlandish things, but that doesn’t make it real. Having an “affiliate” that was convicted of something, does make them a culprit, any more than one bad congressman, makes them all bad. Even with your own figures the “affiliates” medicaid issue was less than 0.1% of PP revenue.

6. See #4. That is correct, having opponents that make wild accusations, is nothing new to PP, but neither is that a reason that they should be singled out for punishment.

7. “Women can receive wider range of care at other centers.” This is true of Cardiac Surgery Centers, Cancer Centers, and all kinds of specialty care. That is not an argument for singling out Planned Parenthood.

Don’t forget that the Federal Government does not pay 1 cent for the abortions performed by Planned Parenthood, even though those procedures are perfectly legal.

Are you saying that because you don’t like them they should not get reimbursed for PAP smears, mammograms and contraceptive prescriptions? If they agreed to stop performing abortions immediately would you still want to “defund” them?

Be honest.

Dana Duffy - March 9, 2017

The Hyde Amendment prohibits taxpayer money to fund abortion,. The only way for Congress to defund them is through Medicaid rollbacks. So pat yourselves on the backs for voting in politicians who are about to take healthcare away from the very people who voted Trump into office. The poor…who cares about them anyway.

George Arthur Veghte - March 11, 2017

Planned Parenthood needs to be defunded. Be a Voice for the Voiceless! Stand up for what you believe in and take action. Students for life are running a campaign against PP. Hannah Stevens - April 13, 2017

Planned Parenthood serves millions of people with contraception, STD tests, pregnancy tests, HIV tests, breast exams, pap tests, prenatal visits, colonoscopy and biopsy tests, vasectomies and cervical cryotherpy for pre-cancerous paps, and permanent birth control for women. Of these about 3 percent were abortions which receive no federal funding. None of these procedures require insurance. What could be your possible excuse for defunding Planned Parenthood? Because they perform a legal procedure? If you don’t support Planned Parenthood you do not support women’s rights.

Ka’Sandra - April 26, 2017

Planned Parenthood is an amazing resource to many women and men who cannot afford “regular” health care. It help millions of people inside and outside of clinics every year. You have amazing points and I agree with every single one of them. Abortions only make up a TOTAL of 3 percent of all of the services done at a clinic, and to stop funding just due to that is insane and PP helps stop unwanted pregnancies which means less abortions. So if people really think about it, they are making it so women have more abortions because now they might not have access to contraceptives.

Bridgette H. - April 28, 2017

First of all, Planned Parenthood is a non-profit organization. Secondly, abortions only take up to 3% of the services they provide. Most of those who are pro-life are only pro-life until the baby is born. Once the baby is born they don’t want to even help the mother who had the child. Also, why in the world would you want to defund something that saves women’s lives by providing free to low cost prenatal care, pap smears, breast exams, pregnancy tests, birth control, and STD treatments and screenings??

Charles Jennings, FISCAL POLICY ANALYST - May 5, 2017

How is this women employed? This is not “7 reasons that PP should not get government funding,” this is “7 issues I take with PP, LOADED with personal agenda, misleading citations, and an overall misunderstanding or outright LYING about the actual functions of PP.” this article is garbage and why the right continues to lose the War on Women.

Jo - February 9, 2018

Planned parenthood is NOT “nothing but an abortion business” Chan Bailey. Have you been to one? I think not, because If you have, then you would not have been so ignorant of the health care that they provide for both men and women . And Yes, Planned Parenthood provide health care to Men of all ages as well. (And that is a fact!) Oh and male patients usually do not go to this place for abortion. (Also a FACT) Therefore, Chan Bailey you are wrong to say that Planned Parenthood “is nothing but an abortion business”

lily - April 24, 2018

all these people say no but when a child needs money in welfare or to be adopted they the first to say no and tell the parents to work harder. planned parenthood isnt even being funded as of right now know the facts before you comment .

Carolyn Maehling - May 2, 2018

I do not want my tax monies going to fund something I have been against since a teenager in the 60s. Now the liberals have finally came out , as in the wh corespondents dinner, gleefully talking about ripping a baby out of the womb. Sonergrams show that there is living human in the womb. How can this not be murder. The left Are
corrupt in there values. I pray for our country, in the midst of there scorn.

Ash - May 13, 2018

Hi! Planned Parenthood should stay funded because a lot of women who go there to get an abortion cannot afford how much it costs to have a child! If a woman knew her child would be okay and put into an amazing foster family and then adopted into an amazing and loving family, then she wouldn’t need Planned Parenthood! Fix the foster system and world population and then you guys can complain about this “murder” program!

joe - June 22, 2018

1. Profitability isn’t really a good reason to defund.

2. This is a good reason to use defunding as leverage to eliminate the abortion service from planned parenthood.

3. Not enough to be a reason to defund. We need totals vs # of referrals to make an accurate determination.

4. Accusations and “possible fraud” isn’t enough of a reason to defund.

5. If planned parenthood used taxpayer dollars to fight any legislation that is a big reason to defund.

6. Accusations are not enough to defund. Anyone can accuse anyone of anything.

7. The fact that other care is available isn’t a good reason by itself to defund planned parenthood.

TLDR: Reasons 2 and 5 are valid…the rest are garbage.

Fisal - July 16, 2018

No one should be paying for nother’s stupidity.

Teresa L Wilson - September 12, 2018

Planned Parenthood must to be defunded. Taxpayers should not be paying for them to murder babies!
Brutal & barbaric.

Kara - October 5, 2018

Wow, I’m shocked about the misinformation here. Seems we only care about furthering our own agendas, rather than helping people. They provide free contraception, how is that emphasizing abortion? I go there to get birth control, and tested for STDs a lot. Less than 1% of the abortions they do involve inpatient care. Most of it is chemical abortions, which is basically Plan B pill. They give access contraception to underprivileged people. Without it, abortion rates would go up, because they are about prevention.

Tracy Moore - February 4, 2019

Your article, and many like it, should include a petition for congress that people can actually sign to join the support to stop Planned Parenthood. Your DONATE word is visable enough. You should have a viable way for people to actually make a difference, when dipping into their pockets is not doable, but petitioning congressmen could be.

Mick - February 26, 2019

Rumors are what spread all these things about PP. There are different websites giving different statistics about PP services that are wrong. SO, how should I or another women believe them. ONLY, 3% of their services are for abortions. If PP is defunded, abortions will still happen somewhere else. And, women will not be protected if PP was defunded. PP is not the only source for Abortions, and their services go far beyond that anyway. So, do your research and realize that all of these websites online have different statistics, so you do not know what to trust.

Cathy Sanders - May 25, 2019

I wrote this poem about Planned Parenthood a couple of years ago. Anyone may share it with others they desire. I am glad my daughter chose life!!!

Eyes blue… like the skies…. like you
Eyes green … like mine …like trees
Eyes dark…like unfathomable seas
That glisten on the water’s surface
And sparkle with every breeze

Eyes come assorted
With lovely color and design
Each pair of eyes are unique
Thank heavens!!
We are blessed because
Your eyes are yours
And my eyes are mine!
When it comes to eyes
Good boundaries are fine!!

When I gaze in your grown-up eyes
I sometimes go back in memory
You were never a commodity,
But my little bundle of joy!
My very first grandson…
Such a darling little boy!

650 dollars for a pair of human eyes?
Oh really??
“Tissue mass” and
Are fake names that dehumanize!!

God created children
They are are His poetry.
Jesus said,
“Suffer the little children to come unto me”

Planned Parenthood says
“Come and get your
body parts…”
(Echoes of Hitleresque cries!)
“650 dollars”
For a pair of little eyes

And more is at stake
Than wee little eyes
Planned Parenthood steals hearts
No matter the size

They hide the ultrasounds
From the mothers
And the fathers-to-be
To keep them temporally ….

So they cannot immediately see
Or easily fathom
Or understand
How Planned Parenthood lies
When they proffer their plans

They don’t want mothers
Or fathers-to-be
Seeing the image of a wee baby
A human like you
A human like me

Planned Parenthood demands
650 dollars for a little pair of eyes
But oh…
They are so silent
About unheard preborn cries
About hurting grown-up hearts
And the unmeasurable cost

When millions and millions
And millions of people
Are Hurt …
Broken …
Then Tossed.

Cathy Sanders - June 3, 2019

In reference to my poem,
“A PAIR OF LITTLE EYES” in these comments, there is mention in the link
below about 650 dollars paid for a pair of aborted baby eyes. This is in very recent history and it

Renae - October 23, 2019

I love how everyone believes the OPINION of another person, sorry hun but you’ll need evidence on all of your accusations before someone WITH a brain believes you <3.

Furthermore who the hell are any of you to make choices for others? Do you plan on taking care of the children they don't want? Do you plan on helping the mother who had a child and the father left? If you don't plan on helping then stay out of it, you have no say. PLAIN AND SIMPLE.
Also, Planned Parenthood over all their business of abortion is 4%. So no, Planned Parenthood is not an abortion clinic. Get your facts straight.

Lois Marshall - December 29, 2019

No No No No No No No Way!
Let the babies live, don’t hurt them. How can you kill them?
Please let them live someone will love them. Please
My friend had an abortion 45 years later she still feels so terrible about it.
