The Heritage Foundation has led the defense and promotion of the first principles that inspired our founders for almost four decades. And thanks to members of the Heritage Legacy Society, members who have included Heritage in their estate plans, we will continue to do so for generations to come.

Conference on a Stable Dollar:
Why We Need It and How to Achieve It

October 5, 2011

Leaders across the nation are becoming increasingly concerned about the possibility of rising inflation and a falling dollar. Others are less worried about the level of the dollar than they are about the volatility of the dollar exchange rate against other major currencies. American leaders have long emphasized the importance of a strong dollar and a stable dollar. But today, rising levels of federal debt, the lingering effects of economic recession in the United States and internationally, plus the recent, dramatic policies of the Federal Reserve combine to heighten concerns over the future of the dollar and United States exchange rate policy generally. Our distinguished guests discussed the need for a stable dollar, shortcomings in current monetary policies and institutions, and necessary adjustments to achieve a stable dollar.
