Speaking Monday at The Heritage Foundation, Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) outlined a conservative vision of a free society based on America’s first principles.
Two institutions lie at the core of American freedom, he said during his remarks in Heritage’s Lehrman Auditorium: “A free enterprise economy and voluntary civil society.” These organically-developed systems “work for everyone” by “harnessing individuals’ self interest to work for the common good.”
American freedom can bring people together, he said, while big-government policies divide people into interest groups and turn citizens into dependents.
Lee also rejected the liberal myth that conservatives simply to oppose progress. “The left has created a false narrative that liberals are for things and conservatives are against things,” he said.
The conservative movement “is about the nation we want to be,” he said. “We have to do a better job showing [the American people] our vision for America.”
How do you think we can better explain this vision of freedom to the American people?
