Constitution Day

Today, as we celebrate the 225th anniversary of the Constitution, Heritage Foundation scholar Matthew Spalding warns us that we are moving away from the Founders’ vision for America:

Today, the federal government has acquired an all but unquestioned dominance over virtually every area of American life. It acts without constitutional limits and increasingly regulates our most basic activities, from how much water is in our toilets to what kind of light bulbs we can buy.

But this path towards unlimited government is not irreversible. “We can, and must, dedicate ourselves to the hard work of restoring constitutional self-government, and so preserving the American Dream for all,” Spalding concludes.

Be sure to visit our online Heritage Guide to the Constitution, which includes analysis of every clause of our nation’s highest law from leading experts.

We re-read the Constitution. I also read a couple of the Federalist Papers essays and excepts of some John Locke.

We had a Constitution Day luncheon sponsored by the DAR with the Republican Woman Chairman of TX as the speaker. She is a retired Lt. Col. in the Army. That night I cooked a Constitution Day dinner for some friends and then sent them home with fact sheets about the Consitutuion, a Republican Elephant glass filled with candies about voting, and an American flag.

Has the online version of the course “The Heritage Guide to the Constitution” based on a 2005 book of the same name been updated? If not, are there any plans to do so?

Author Nathaniel Ward - December 12, 2012

The online guide is drawn directly on the 2005 book. There are plans to update the print edition, though no release date has been set.
