Heritage Foundation President Jim DeMint checks in from the road with an update on Heritage Action’s Defund Obamacare Tour.
I arrived in Columbus this morning after holding our Heritage and Heritage Action Defund Obamacare Townhalls in Fayetteville, Dallas, Tampa, Nashville, Birmingham, and Indianapolis, then I head on to Pittsburgh tomorrow, followed by Wilmington, for a total of 9 stops. The response has been greater than I could have anticipated. Over seven thousand have registered, and every venue is packed beyond limit . . . we’ve had to turn folks away!
In Fayetteville, the tour kicked off in a red barn packed to capacity with people literally in the rafters. Heritage Action President Mike Needham and I spoke, took questions, and then Rafael Cruz (Senator Ted Cruz’s father and longtime member of the conservative movement) gave a stirring “Call to Action” based on his unique personal history.
Senator Cruz joined us in Dallas. 2,000 people were in the room, making it one of the largest events Heritage has ever had! The crowd was on their feet a dozen times cheering and applauding the Defund Obamacare cause and save our country messages. People waited hours to get in, and many came up to me afterwards and said how encouraging it was to them. The energy in the room was electrifying.
NBC, MSNBC, Fox News, and others have all been picking up the townhall story, some of them leading off their news coverage with it. The media publicity we have been getting throughout the Tour has been a perfect example of how we can drive the news cycle if we focus our efforts on a select set of issues and stay on message. Team Heritage has fundamentally changed the debate on a policy issue of critical importance to the future of our country.
Without your support, none of this could be possible, and it is with gratitude that I wanted to let you know how things are going as I travel the country.
Yours for freedom,
Did you go to one of the town hall events? Give you report in the comments.
