About the Program:
Conservative Answers to Social Justice Issues
Many Americans–particularly younger ones–are looking for answers to social justice issues like poverty and are attracted to the Left’s promises of help in these areas. But good intentions and lofty promises aren’t enough. Conservatives are concerned about those in need, and are not willing to accept the same old way of doing business via the welfare state–which has hurt the very people it was intended to help.
Human dignity demands a better approach–one that is built around personal responsibility and mutual responsibility through relationship, not government redistribution. Conservatives believe effective solutions based on sound economic principals and an understanding of the role of civil society institutions have the most promise for achieving a free and just society.
Conservative policy has proven effective when it comes to problems of social breakdown, and we need to tell that story. Heritage is taking a leading role in the development of policy and coalition partnerships that will help advance this conservative vision of social justice.
