- White House Press Secretary Tony Snow discussed ways the White House is battling the liberal media and the new liberal majority in Congress. In his talk this morning in Heritage’s Allison Auditorium, he also laid out the new strategy for President Bush’s final two years in office.
- Rep. Dan Lungren (R-CA) explained to President’s Club members that Republicans lost last Tuesday’s elections because they abandoned conservative principles on areas like spending.
- The Gatlin Brothers musical troupe, sporting Heritage neckties, provided the entertainment last night. They regaled the audience with a touching rendition of “America the Beautiful” and other songs.
- Washington Times editor Wesley Pruden, Wall Street Journal columnist Daniel Henninger and Richard Rahn of FreedomWorks examined the liberal media and their persistent misrepresentation of economic reality.
- A panel of experts including Heritage Vice President Stuart Butler and political analyst Whit Ayres broke down last week’s election results and what they mean for the conservative movement. Ayres looked at the demographics of the exit polls for clues on how conservatives can regain electoral advantage. Butler recommended that conservatives hold liberals to their promises not to hike taxes and spending and that they push over the long haul for essential entitlement and tax reforms.
- Heritage tax expert Dan Mitchell joined economists Brian Wesbury and Walter Williams to discuss the legacy of the Reagan tax cuts and the need to control federal spending and preserve the current low tax rates.
- Finally, in a newly-devised segment of the two-day meeting, President’s Club members had the opportunity to interact directly with Heritage’s experts at personal question-and-answer sessions about eight of today’s most important issues, from health care to North Korea.
