MyHeritage.org myth busters: Global warming
March 22, 2007 | By Nathaniel Ward
“Our world faces a true planetary emergency,” former Vice President Al Gore said yesterday as he told members of Congress that the government should impose controls on the economy to control global warming.
But what are the facts about global warming? The Heritage Foundation’s experts have debunked a number of prevalent liberal myths on the subject.
- Myth: Global warming is unprecedented
- Myth: Global warming will be catastrophic
- Myth: Global warming caused Hurricane Katrina and other natural disasters
- Myth: We are facing 20-foot sea level rise because of global warming
- Myth: The costs of the Kyoto Protocol fall mainly on industry and not on the public
- Myth: The Kyoto Protocol has been a success in Europe
- Myth: America is doing nothing about global warming
Heritage experts to Congress: follow the Constitution
Congress is considering misguided legislation that would restrict the President’s inherent authority under the Constitution to defend the nation.
Heritage Foundation legal experts are among the many scholars who sent a letter to the Congressional leadership warning about the dangers of such unconstitutional provisions, which are “designed to tie the President’s hands.”

The facts behind the U.S. Attorneys battle
Liberals in Congress are furious that the President recently dismissed eight United States Attorneys without explanation. But in this highly politicized debate—Congress has said it will issue subpoenas to White House officials demanding an explanation—it’s important that both sides agree on the basic facts.
Heritage’s Brian Darling cuts to the core of the debate in a new Heritage video. “The president has the power to hire and fire U.S. Attorneys whenever he so chooses and he doesn’t need to give a reason,” says Darling, director of Senate relations. This must be taken into account as Congress debates constitutional questions of presidential power, he argues.
