What is the President's Club?
Editor’s Note: The following are Susan Brown’s remarks as prepared for delivery at the September 19 Dallas/Fort Worth Committee for Heritage kickoff event.
I have been asked today to speak about the benefits of becoming a President’s Club member of the Heritage Foundation. But before you scramble for your parking tickets, I am going to give you a little test. For I predict that many of you are already Heritage President’s Club members; you just have to get your paperwork and your checkbook caught up with reality.
So, can you answer “yes” to any of the following questions?
- Do you regularly listen to any of the following talk show hosts? Dennis Prager, Laura Ingraham, Rush Limbaugh, Michael Medved, or Bill Bennett?
- Do you read or subscribe to at least one of the following? The Wall Street Journal, Townhall.com, MyHeritage.org, The Weekly Standard, or National Review?
- When you see an editorial by Thomas Sowell, Cal Thomas, Peggy Noonan, Christopher Hitchens, Mark Steyn or John Fund, do you pour yourself an extra cup of coffee, sigh and say, “now this will be worth reading”?
- Are you passionate? Do you often speak eloquently at cocktail and dinner parties when asked about a) limited government, b) strong national defense, c) individual freedom, d) free enterprise, or e) traditional American values?
If you answered “yes” to any of these four questions, I believe you are already a Heritage Foundation supporter and a President’s Club member. You simply need to get your checkbook out and clear up your paperwork.
Now there is a special category left.
- If you did not grow up on the “milk” of conservative policy, but you find your heart no longer going “pitter patter” as you read The New York Times editorial page;
- If you secretly opened a bottle of champagne when you heard that Air America radio was broke;
- If the progressive agenda has left you discouraged, deceived, misled and feeling a little lost; and
- If you are ready to come in from the wilderness, we will support you and encourage you with a tailor-made rehabilitation program.
Now, the benefits of a President’s Club membership, for your $1,000 support:
- You will receive numerous articles, books, and summaries which will enlighten and stimulate all of your conversations (as well as filling your bedside table).
- You will receive a subscription to PolicyWire, a weekly email update summarizing the latest news and development on key issues.
- You will receive invitations to Heritage events in Washington and around the country.
- Finally, you will receive an invitation for you and your guest to attend the semi-annual President’s Club meetings in Washington D.C. At these President’s Club meetings you will meet other friends from around the country, all with stellar minds, cunning wit, good looks and humility.
Thank you very much for your time.
