Ana I. Eiras
Senior Policy Analyst on International Economics, Center for International Trade and Economics
Ana Eiras specializes in international economics and development as a senior policy analyst in the Center for International Trade and Economics (CITE) at The Heritage Foundation. As a CITE analyst, she focuses on economic freedom, globalization, and trade issues around the world.
A native of Argentina, Eiras previously worked in her home country as a customer service and marketing analyst for multinational corporations such as Shell Oil and American Express. She also worked for SIBLEY International, a United States Agency for International Development contractor, which brought her to Latin America and the former Soviet Union.
Eiras is the senior author of the Index of Economic Freedom, published annually by Heritage and The Wall Street Journal, and editor of the Spanish-language edition of the Index, a leading publication in the Hispanic world. She has given numerous seminars in countries around the world on the political economy of liberalization, the perceived failure of U.S. pro-market policies in the development world, barriers to job creation and growth, and the Latin American experiment with reform. She has also advised U.S. and foreign government officials on policy recommendations.
She has been published and quoted in leading international newspapers such as the Financial Times, as well as in leading newspapers in the United States, Argentina, Chile, Perú, Brazil, Portugal, Spain, Korea, the United Kingdom, Germany, and many other countries. She has also given commentaries on radio and TV in Latin American and Europe, as well as on leading U.S. networks such as CNN and PBS.
iras holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from George Mason University and a master’s degree in applied economics from Johns Hopkins University.
